Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in another country or experience a new culture? After each session I teach with Cambly I feel like I get a glimpse into another part of the world. A private one-on-one tour with a resident of another country.
Cambly offers a window into thousands of different cultures. Its students are from Asia, the Middle East, and South America. Tutors are able to virtually step into the homes of their students and learn about their lives, customs, and life experiences; all from the comfort of their own home.

Since joining the platform in January of 2020 I have spoken with an Iranian refugee who now lives in Mexico, a law student studying in Istanbul, and an Indian mother who currently lives in San Francisco among many others. I have helped a student draft an email of frustration to an English handbag company and offered life advice to a student struggling to stay positive with the Covid19 crisis. Each session is entirely unique and interesting in its own right. That isn't to say I don't speak with the occasional student who I have nothing in common with or isn't very talkative; however, the good greatly outweighs the bad. Hundreds of minutes spoken with individuals whom I never would have had the opportunity to speak with if it weren't for this platform. Particularly during times of crisis, Cambly illuminates how truly united we are in our humanity.
As a certified EFL teacher, my sessions range from practicing conversational skills to focusing on increasing vocabulary through reading exercises and teaching grammar. Although I am in the role of a teacher I leave each session learning something new. Whether it is a word in the student's language or an aspect of their culture, it truly is an unintended exchange of information. Unlike jobs I have had in the past I end each lesson with a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. This platform is just another opportunity that allows people to work online from the comfort of their home or travel and still earn an income.
